Restorative yoga

The best way to describe the benefits of restorative yoga is to perhaps ask what aren't the benefits of restorative yoga? If you have suffered from stress, trauma, injury, or illness, this practice can help you heal. if you are just a regular person, with a normal amount of stress in your life, and want to continue to feel good in your body, this practice will help you maintain that well-being. Ultimately, everyone wants to feel at ease in his or her own body, and to achieve a sense of union with their true nature. This is the main "goal" of yoga, and it is what we all deserve to achieve in our lifetime.

A few of the physical benefits include:

  • Restores you after surgery: Restorative yoga is restful, you are able to regain energy when you practice, and will also allow you to heal. Specific poses and sequences can also allow you to recover from certain surgeries.

  • Prevent diseases: Restorative yoga is known to prevent diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. It is incredibly beneficial, because the poses lower cortisol levels in the system. When relaxation is induced and cortisol lowers, blood pressure levels likewise lower, as well as glucose levels.

  •  Helps relieve women's issues: Restorative yoga can be therapeutic for pregnancy, menstruation, and menopause. It can help treat the discomfort.

  • Helps relieve cold and flu symptoms

  • Provides headache relief

  • Provides relief from carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Helps reduce obesity

  • Relieves sciatica

  • Relieves symptoms from spinal cord injuries

  • Gives you more energy

A Few of the Psychological Benefits of yoga are well documented. For example, it establishes mindfulness that leads to better life choices and consequently a happier state of being; it enhances patience, which leads to better relationships- the list is long. Restorative yoga offers all the same benefits as ant other style of yoga, but also offers psychological benefits that come specifically out of this unique practice. Since the poses are held for long lengths of time, you are allowed to really contemplate your presence in your body. This gives you a stillness in which to begin to explore your mind/body  connection. Focusing on your breath for these long period of time can be extremely therapeutic, and, of course, relieve stress.
